Here’s my weekend strawberry, I started it Friday night and finished it on Saturday. I did it with my watercolor pencils and my waterbrush.
Great Falls, struggling a little with the water…
This drawing was started at Great Falls National Park in VA. I started it on-site with two wonderful friends and fellow-artists. It was a beautiful day and we all sat down to draw the falls. After about 30 minutes, we all decided that sitting on the rocks just wasn’t too comfortable and we stopped drawing. But we each had the basic outline of the Falls and knew the perspective that we wanted.
Since then, I have continued working on the drawing, just a little each day and you can see where I am now…… You can also see that the water is flowing extremely fast – it’s flowing so fast that it’s pretty much rapids the whole way through. And I am struggling a little with how to draw the water. I just can’t seem to capture the power of the water.

Quick 10 minute sketch
Here’s a quick 10 minute sketch from tonight. I had travelled today so I didn’t feel like taking too much time to draw but I wanted to do something so I chose this little guy. I try to draw a little something each day because I think it helps me improve and relaxes me. I’ve learned that every drawing doesn’t have to be a masterpiece, it’s ok to draw just for the practice and the fun!

Take 2….you can see my progress
OK, I have reduced the images and I will see if this will upload and if it looks ok……
I love looking at my progress. This shows it pretty good….
This first one is Louie (FROM MEMORY) drawn on December 25, 2010.
At this point, I had just begun working through the book “The New Drawing from the Right Side of the Brain” and this was one of the first exercises.
I then continued through the book and drew this next one on January 9, 2011 while looking at Louie as he watched TV. He was a little nervous at first and I had to be very patient since he was fidgety most of the time…..
I continued the book until the end, when you repeat the “from memory” drawing and performed the following on January 22, 2011. I think you can see the improvement, although I could never figure out quite how to do the hair and I seemed to get his head kinda skinny….. but, you will notice that his eyes are more realistic in this one and the cheekbones and cheeks are more like his….
Overall, I believe these drawing show my progress. So I will close for now and will share more later.

So much to say….
So much to say and not sure where to begin…..I’d love to show my whole sketch book from the last 3 months but that’s a little difficult….and you might get bored! But I don’t really know where to start. If you know me, you know that I am basically a self-taught artist, only taking lessons for a year or so. Then I quit drawing for a while because I got too busy with life: getting married, building a house, building a career, etc.
This past fall, in 2010, I decided it was time to get back into my art work. Since December 25, 2010, I have done a little artwork each day. Some days, it was a 15 minute sketch, other days, it was drawing for an hour or trying my hand at watercolors or trying to find that perfect pastel paper that I like…..
So, in the next week or so, I will try to take you back through my last 3 months (almost 4 months now) of drawings. I might not show all of them but who know, maybe I will. Here goes….
DOH! FATAL ERROR?!?!?! Out of memory????? what does that mean? Maybe I need to shrink my image before uploading? Hmmmmmm…..
Hello world! My first post – finally!
This is my first post! Finally…. So, I decided I would start a blog for my artwork so my friends and family could see my works in progress or daily/weekly drawings, etc. Well, they make it sound sooooo easy! Just a few clicks on the keyboard and wah lah, you will have a blog! Well, WHATEVER! After approximately 5 hours of work on my part, including 105 minutes on the phone with the help desk and help from 2 very smart friends in the IT business, I FINALLY have my blog! Let’s see, we re-installed WordPress twice, dropped the database once, created some crazy .htaccess file, and finally found that I had a corrupted admin.php file! I don’t quite understand how a file that I downloaded then uploaded to the server get corrupted so easily but WHATEVER! It’s over now and I can blog! Wooooohoooooo!
